Obtaining Consent

Consent Requirements

Consent must be obtained and documented before recording a session with a patient. There are several options for how to go about this.

  1. Put an AI consent form in your intake packet. Here is a template you can use.
  2. Obtain consent verbally. Before each recorded session, you can obtain verbal consent by:
    • Notify the patient that you will be recording the session
    • Explain the purpose: the recording is used to assist in clinical documentation
    • Inform them they have the right to deny consent or revoke it at any time
    • Record their verbal consent as part of the session recording
  3. Recommended: Both a consent form and a verbal reminder before sessions. This approach provides the most comprehensive protection. Have patients sign a consent form during intake that covers notification, purpose, and their right to deny or revoke consent. Then provide a brief verbal reminder at the start of each recorded session, capturing their continued consent on the recording. This ensures ongoing informed consent and helps patients feel comfortable with the process.
Tip: In the case you are not able to record a session, you can still use the dictate feature to have Perspectives write the note for you.

Telehealth
Perspectives currently only works for telehealth sessions in the same browser, not desktop apps like Zoom Desktop.

Go to the tab for your Google Meet, Zoom, or Microsoft Teams call. Then, select telehealth on the orb, and hit record.

You will be prompted to click the extension in your toolbar. Click the extension and the recording will start. From there, continue as usual.
